Rainstorms & rainbows in Rockland

We managed somehow to book an overnight without checking the weather. It was sprinkling when we left, so we brought our rain gear— just in case.

Pass at your own risk.

We were rained in. I made a mug of tea and climbed back into the exceedingly comfortable bed. I’d thought enough ahead to bring a volume of Mary Oliver— the finest companion when weather strikes and there’s nowhere to go.

Eventually, a patch of sunlight appeared on the wall above my head, and the street outside our window appeared slick and luminous. Something about the quality of light prompted us to go up to the roof-deck see if we could find a rainbow.

We took a walk in the evening, relishing the particular freedom of unexpected time. It was a mild evening in January, the world around us felt fresh and clean and blue.
